Have you always wanted the focal range that an SLR brings but didn’t fancy carrying 3 or 4 lenses around with you? The P100 has a 26-678mm equivalent zoom lens which is remarkable for a camera of its size and compactness. The ability to quickly go from wide angle to ultra-telephoto is something that needs to be experienced in order to be fully appreciated. In addition, for its size the P100’s lens is impressively fast with maximum apertures of f/2.8 at 26mm and f/5 at 678mm , allowing you to choose the setting you feel best matches your surroundings. The 26x zoom lens is controlled by way of a conventional zoom lever to find that appropriate range. The P100 offers you the flexibility for the lining up of your favourite shots by either using the rear screen or, for the traditionalists, the eye-level electronic viewfinder . The three-inch rear LCD screen looks very attractive thanks to its resolution of 460,000 dots . It even articulates and tilts up or down , giving you added flexibility in composing your pictures. The deep grip is also moulded to fit comfortably into your right hand, and is rubberised for added comfort. Capture outstanding Full HD (1920x1080p) movies on the P100, and ensure no details are lost in time. Shots are made at 30 frames per second (fps) with stereo sound and optical zoom. The stereo microphone has been cleverly situated at the top of the camera, behind the flash, helping to reduce wind noise so that outdoor filming becomes clearer and less restrictive. Recording movie clips has never been easier either. By simply pressing the movie record button you can start recording a clip no matter what shooting mode you are in. If you want to get closer to the action, optical zooming is available during filming as well as autofocus. There’s even a feature to let you create fun slow-motion movies . The P100 is capable of high-speed (HS) movie recording , albeit not at Full HD resolution. Videos can either be shot at 240fps, 120fps or HD clips at 60fps. When these videos are played back at 30fps, they become slow-motion movies, great for capturing those dramatic moments. Never will you be in the prime position to capture that magic moment only to realise your battery is left charging at home. The P100 runs on a proprietary Lithium-ion battery which is charged in-camera and can be charged either via a computer or through a mains adapter. If you want the best chance of capturing the perfect picture, the P100 has a fast burst feature called Continuous H which will allow you to shoot 6 full-resolution stills in half a second. Alternatively, there is also a slower burst mode called Continuous L which will let you capture 200 full-resolution photos at the click of a button. The P100's focus modes include Auto Focus (AF), Macro, Infinity and Manual . AF can be centre-spot, user selectable from 99 focus points or camera selectable from 9 points. In Face Priority AF mode , the camera can detect up to 12 human faces and will focus on the one closest to the camera, ensuring those smiles are captured in all their glory. Another essential feature on a camera like this is Vibration Reduction (VR). This helps prevent camera-shake and any blurring in the detail of your images. The P100 is surprisingly compact and lightweight for a camera that offers such a round package, and even starts up in less than two seconds , making this a perfect travel mate for capturing those spontaneous moments in stunning quality.
